The Sources Page displays an organized list of all genealogical sources (documents, records, books, etc.) in your database. These sources provide the evidence for the information in your family tree.


Page Overview and Navigation

Main Sources List (What You’ll See)

The main list shows a basic summary for each source:

  • Source Title: The name of the document or record (clickable to view details).
  • Individual Count: The number of people in your database linked to this source (e.g., “15 individuals”).

Top Navigation & Filtering

Searching, Browsing, and Pagination

Search Bar

Use the search bar to find specific sources by typing keywords found in their title.

  1. Type your search term in the box.
  2. Click Apply to filter the list.
  3. Click Clear to remove the search and view all sources.

Display and Pagination

Viewing a Source Detail Page

Clicking any Source Title takes you to a dedicated detail page where you can review the full evidence.

Source Details and Media

  • Navigation: Uses a โ† Back link and breadcrumbs (e.g., ).
  • Source Image: If a document image is attached to the source, it appears at the top and is clickable to open full-size in a new tab.
Source Details Table FieldDescription
Source IDThe unique identifier from your GEDCOM file.
TitleThe full name of the document or publication.
Author / PublisherThe person or entity who created and/or published the source.
PublicationPublication date, location, and other related details.
RepositoryWhere the original physical record is stored (archive, library, etc.).
NotesAny additional notes or commentary about the source.

Individuals Associated with This Source

This section displays a table of all people whose information is documented by this source.

  • Table Columns: Shows the Name (clickable link to profile), Birth date, and Death date for each associated individual.
  • Privacy Protection: Only deceased or public individuals appear in this list, respecting your site’s privacy settings.
  • Back to Top Button: A “โ†‘” button appears when you scroll, allowing you to quickly jump back to the top of the page.

Understanding Sources

Privacy and Display

  • Source Visibility: All source titles and details are always publicly visible, regardless of individual privacy settings.
  • Individual Privacy: Privacy settings (for living or private people) only apply when attempting to access an individual’s profile or when filtering the Individuals Associated table.
