10. Managing Families (Families Section)
The Families section in LineagePress is dedicated to managing family units within your genealogical data. This includes partnerships (husbands and wives), their children, and marriage details.
Accessing the Families Section
Navigate to LineagePress > Families in your WordPress admin dashboard.
Overview of the Families Section
The primary view is the Browse Families page, which displays a comprehensive table of all family units in your database.
Browse Families
This page provides a list of all family records. Search and filter options make it easy to locate specific families.
Table Columns
- Checkbox: Select families for bulk actions.
- Family ID: Unique identifier for the family unit (e.g.,
F123). - Partner 1 (Husband): Name of the husband. Clicking the name opens their individual profile (if available).
- Partner 2 (Wife): Name of the wife. Clicking the name opens their individual profile (if available).
- Marriage: Marriage date and place for the family.
- Children: Number of children linked to the family unit.
- Tree: ID of the family tree this family belongs to (visible if managing multiple trees).
- Last Modified: Date the family record was last updated.
Family Statistics
Above the table, a summary provides quick statistics and filter shortcuts:
- Total: Total family records in the database or selected tree. Click to clear other filters.
- No Partner: Families missing either a husband or wife. Click to filter these families.
- No Marriage Date: Families without a recorded marriage date. Click to filter these families.
- Has Children: Families with at least one child linked. Click to filter.
- No Children: Families without linked children. Click to filter.
Searching and Filtering Families
- Search Box: Enter a Family ID or spouse’s name to locate matching families.
- Tree Filter: Filter families by a specific tree. Useful for multiple-tree setups.
- Search Button: Apply filters.
- Clear Button: Reset filters to display all families.
Pagination and Display Options
- Show [X] entries: Choose how many families are displayed per page (10, 20, 50, 100).
- Pagination Links: Navigate pages using “‹”, “›”, or page numbers.
Bulk Actions
Perform actions on multiple families at once:
- Select Families: Use checkboxes to select records.
- Choose Action: Options include:
- Delete Selected: Permanently remove selected families (irreversible).
- Apply Button: Execute the chosen action.
